| Coach McKissick Honored | ||

Pictured above, John McKissick, Summerville High School Athletic Director and football coach, accepts his award from Don Shula after being named the Don Shula High School Coach of the Year. In 2011, Coach Mckissick completed his 60th season as the head football coach at Summerville High, where he has led the team to 10 state championships. Coach McKissick was nominated by the Carolina Panthers for this award that honors coaches who display integrity, achievement, and leadership as demonstrated by the award's namesake, Don Shula, the winningest coach in NFL history. Coach McKissick shared the following, "Any honor you get like this, you have to share it with all the people that you've surrounded yourself with over the years. This is great for our program and our school, and we've got a town full of great fans that support us. I accept this on everybody else's behalf." (panthers.com) Coach McKissick will receive a $10,000 cash award and a $15,000 grant for the school's athletic program.
